Plan for the Formulation and Revision of Standards in the Petrochemical Industry Announced
On August 6, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the 2010 plan for the formulation and revision of industry standards in the industrial sector. Among these, the chemical industry will focus on developing standards related to industrial restructuring and optimization and upgrading, the integration of informatization and industrialization, technological transformation, the industrialization of high and new technologies, product innovation and quality, energy conservation, emissions reduction, and comprehensive utilization, as well as workplace safety.
Ethanol-Blended Gasoline Is Here; A New Approach Is Needed for C4 Utilization
On September 13, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and 14 other ministries jointly issued a notice titled “Implementation Plan for Expanding Biofuel Ethanol Production and Promoting the Use of Ethanol-Blended Gasoline for Vehicles,” which stipulates that the use of ethanol-blended gasoline will be promoted in Northeast China and other provinces and cities starting in 2017, with the goal of achieving near-universal coverage of ethanol-blended gasoline nationwide by 2020. Previously issued standards for ethanol-blended gasoline require that the content of oxygenates in such fuel not exceed 0.5 wt% . This means that components such as methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and etherified light gasoline can no longer be used as gasoline blending components. Canglian's MTBE Unit Sets Three Records
Recently, news came from the Cangzhou Refinery that in 2009, the plant implemented a number of measures to optimize MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) production to the greatest extent possible. Annual output reached 22,618 metric tons, which was 1.18 times the previous highest output and exceeded the facility’s design capacity by 2,618 metric tons; the product conversion rate reached 95.67%, surpassing the previous best level by nearly 7 percentage points.
