On March 15, 2018, the 6th International Conference on Comprehensive Utilization of Light Hydrocarbons successfully concluded in Haikou, Hainan Province. The conference focused on exploring new trends in the light hydrocarbons industry and redefining its future landscape. More than 300 delegates and experts engaged in a brainstorming session, offering suggestions and contributing their expertise to the development of the light hydrocarbons industry. During the conference, the Light Hydrocarbons Utilization Industry Collaboration Group held an election for its new leadership. KaiRui Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. was successfully elected as the Chair of the Council, with General Manager Zhang Yong assuming the role of Chair.
2018 is a pivotal year bridging the past and the future in the implementation of the 13th Five-Year Plan. Following recent years of development, the light hydrocarbons industry During the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, the development landscape is quietly shifting. Ethane imports from the United States are surging, and Satellite Petrochemical and Nanshan Group have successively announced plans to produce ethylene through the cracking of imported ethane. Propane dehydrogenation projects are springing up everywhere; however, amid this development boom, there are underlying concerns regarding uncontrolled imported propane prices and profit uncertainty. The release of the “Implementation Plan for Expanding Biofuel Ethanol Production and Promoting the Use of Ethanol-Blended Gasoline for Vehicles” has placed production and operations of MTBE and light gasoline etherification facilities in a difficult position, necessitating a reevaluation of the market outlook for isobutylene; meanwhile, specialized and high-end applications in the downstream sectors of C5 and C9 are on the rise. The light hydrocarbons industry is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities.

Concurrently with the conference, the Light Hydrocarbons Utilization Collaborative Group held its leadership transition meeting. Following a joint nomination by member units of the Light Hydrocarbons Industry Collaborative Group, KaiRui Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. was elected as the chair unit of the Collaborative Group’s second-term Board of Directors, with General Manager Zhang Yong assuming the role of Chairman. A plaque presentation ceremony was also held. Zhang Yong, General Manager of KaiRui Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech on behalf of the Light Hydrocarbons Industry Collaborative Group’s Board of Directors: “Influenced by current international developments in light hydrocarbon technology and the situation regarding light hydrocarbon resource imports, as well as domestic policies regarding ethanol-blended gasoline, the development of China’s light hydrocarbons industry faces unprecedented opportunities and challenges.” Under these circumstances, the fact that KaiRui Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. has been elected as the Chair of the Light Hydrocarbons Industry Collaboration Group fully demonstrates the trust placed in the company by all member units and serves as a strong affirmation of the modest contributions KaiRui Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. has made to the development of China’s light hydrocarbons industry over the past nearly 20 years. Leveraging the extensive platform provided by the China National Chemical Information Center, Kairui Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. will work closely with all council members to drive the Chinese light hydrocarbons industry toward better and faster development.

Wang Pan, Deputy Chief Engineer of KaiRui Environmental Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a presentation at the conference, introducing KaiRui Environmental’s research and applications of indirect alkylation catalysts. Leveraging its extensive experience in chemical process technology and resin catalysts, KaiRui Environmental began researching and developing C4 utilization technologies under the ethanol-blended gasoline policy as early as 2003, when the policy was first implemented nationwide. The dimerization of isobutene to produce isooctene is an ideal route for utilizing isobutene as an alternative to MTBE; isooctane, produced by the hydrogenation of isooctene, is a high-octane gasoline component. The isobutylene coupling technology and catalysts developed by KaiRui Environmental Protection for the production of isooctane have completed small-scale, pilot-scale, and industrial-scale testing. The indirect alkylation technology has been successfully implemented in industrial facilities both domestically and internationally, achieving excellent operational results.
